West Harris County Regional Water Authority Qualifies Five Companies, LLC to Pursue Local Waterline Construction Work for Houston’s Surface Water Supply Project

Houston-based civil construction firm, Five Companies, LLC, was one of only two local firms to qualify to bid as a Prime Contractor for the Surface Water Supply Project (SWSP). Led by the West Harris County Regional Water Authority (WHCRWA) and North Fort Bend Water Authority (NFBWA), the SWPS is a 10-year multi-million-dollar endeavor that will provide surface water to western Harris County and northern Fort Bend County.

The SWPS will supply surface water from Lake Houston by way of the City of Houston’s Northeast Water Purification Plant through an approximately 39-mile-long cathodically-protected welded steel 8-foot-diameter pipeline and two large pump stations. The Five Companies’ team is qualified to provide construction expertise on Contracts A, B and C (excluding Segment B3), including: Open-Cut; Hand Mine with Shield; Non-Pressurized Tunnel Boring Machine; and Pressurized Tunnel Boring Machine.

"Five Companies was designed for projects like the SWPS," says Managing Partner, Mark Boyer. "We are a local firm with a vested interest in preparing Houston for future growth. We’ve partnered with the stakeholders on past projects. We know the area and ground conditions, and we have been working with them our entire professional lives. Knowing that this critical project will require a comprehensive team and approach, you could say that Five Companies was built for the SWPS."

Five Companies is comprised of local civil construction firms: Boyer, Inc., Main Lane Industries, Ltd. (a subsidiary of mc2 civil, inc.), Reytec Construction Resources, Inc., and BRH Garver Construction, LP. Under this partnership, the firms leverage over 150 years of combined industry experience, and a workforce of more than 600, to support large projects like the SWSP.

Construction of the SWSP is projected to begin in 2020, and delivery of surface water to WHCRWA and NFBWA residents through this line is scheduled to begin in 2023. For more information, visit: https://www.surfacewatersupplyproject.com/
