Read MoreA history buff, Five Companies’ Principal, Mark L. Boyer was inspired by the story of the six companies that came together to bid on the Hoover Dam construction contract.
Due to the project's immense size and the fact that it was the first dam on the Colorado River, no single contractor had the necessary resources to submit a qualified bid alone. So six general contractors formed a consortium (named “Six Companies”) to submit a joint bid for the contract. The project was so complex and large that only three bids were received, and on March 4, 1931, the US Secretary of the Interior accepted the Six Companies' bid of $48,890,955 (equivalent to +$930 million today). This was $5 million lower than the next bidder, meaning a bid-spread of almost 10%.
“No single company could handle a project of that magnitude, so the six companies joined to complete it as one. I knew that would work for the larger projects in the Houston area, and thus, Five Companies was born," states Boyer.
Five Companies is a Limited Liability Company, comprised of three Houston-based civil construction firms:
Boyer, Inc.
MC2 Civil, LLC
Reytec Construction Resources, Inc.
In 2018, Houston-based civil construction firms Boyer, Inc. (Boyer), MC2 Civil, LLC (MC2 Civil), and Reytec Construction Resources, Inc. (Reytec) formed a professional partnership as Five Companies, LLC. Under this partnership, the firms leverage almost 90 years of combined industry experience and a workforce of almost 1,000 Houston-based employees to serve its clients and support large-scale projects in the Houston Metropolitan Area.
The Five Companies members are local contractors and subcontractors who have built their businesses on serving the City of Houston and other local municipalities, building small and simple sidewalk and roadway projects, to large and complex water or wastewater projects. By providing solutions for the construction, rehabilitation, and replacement of infrastructure, the projects Five Companies and its members have built have primed the City of Houston and other clients for growth and economic success.
